US Bank Trading Revenue Hits $21.6B in Q2 2026, OCC Reports
Commercial banks posted $21.6B in cumulative trading revenue in Q2 2026, surging roughly 31% from both the prior quarter and a year ago.
U.S. commercial banks and savings associations generated $21.6 billion in cumulative trading revenue during the second quarter of 2026, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency reported, marking a strong rebound in trading activity across the sector.
Quarter-over-quarter, trading revenue climbed $5.3 billion, a gain of 32.5 percent compared with the first quarter of 2026. The year-over-year comparison was similarly robust, with revenue rising $5.1 billion, or 30.6 percent, above the same period in 2025.

The back-to-back double-digit percentage gains suggest broad momentum in bank trading desks, though the OCC report did not attribute the increases to specific asset classes or market conditions. Analysts typically watch trading revenue figures closely as a barometer of volatility-driven activity in interest rates, equities, currencies, and commodities markets.
The OCC, which charters and supervises national banks and federal savings associations, releases quarterly trading data as part of its ongoing oversight of the financial system. The figures reflect the aggregate performance of institutions under its regulatory umbrella rather than any single firm.
